Prof. "Louie" - Frank Campbell - Miss Marie - Josh Colow - Gary Burke


Grammy Nominated Professor Louie & The Crowmatix, Woodstock, NY - The group came into existence preparing songs for Aaron Professor Louie Hurwitz' studio productions for the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame group The Band. They are also the backing group for solo CD's by Rick Danko, Levon Helm and Garth Hudson.

Professor Louie & The Crowmatix started touring and recording their own music in 2001. They have seven studio CD's and two live recordings on The Woodstock Records label. In 2010, Woodstock Records released Professor Louie & The Crowmatix CD Whispering Pines which was nominated in the first round of voting for five Grammy's. In the Spring of 2011, Professor Louie was inducted into the South Canadian Blues Society Hall Of Fame with a special event and concert in Canada.

Professor Louie & the Crowmatix have the distinct honor of being the only artists to have a live concert recording released by The New York State Museum entitled The Spirit Of Woodstock. Their Blues CD Century Of The Blues averaged # 20 for six months on the Radio Roots charts. Their music has consistently stayed on these charts for the past ten years.
The group continues to perform in concert at premier theaters, clubs & festivals in The US, Canada and Europe, playing over 150 shows a year.

Professor Louie & The Crowmatix have been featured on syndicated radio shows, Acoustic Cafe, E-Town, Public Radio show Live At the Linda. The Mitch Albom Radio Show & Woodsongs Radio Hour.

In 2006 and 2010, they were special guests on the CBS Television Special Melodies Of Christmas performing their International Award Winning song Melody Of Peace collaborating with The Empire State Orchestra and Choir. Their musicianship has enabled them to cross over into different musical genres and perform in concert with Orchestras and Choirs around the world.

THE MEMBERS

AARON PROFESSOR "LOUIE" HURWITZ: Multi-instrumentalist - Hammond organ/keyboards/accordion and exceptional vocalist. He was tagged Prof. "Louie"
by The Band vocalist/bassist Rick Danko while performing together as a duo.
Prof. Louie co-produced, engineered and performed on The Band's last three CD's, "Jericho", "High On The Hog" and "Jubilation". Other production credits include, Producing & performing on Graham Parker's 2010 release Imaginary Television, on Bloodshot Records Commander Cody's 2009 CD on the Blind Pig Label, Dopers, Drunks and Everyday Losers, Hammond Organ on The New Riders Of The Purple Sage 2009 release Where I Come From and also playing on the Guy Davis critically acclaimed CD Sweet Heart Like You on Red House Records, two CD's with Ireland's Four Men and A Dog and The David Nelson Band's Visions' Under The Moon,Rick Danko's CD's Live On Breeze Hill & Times Like These. Louie produced and played with The Crowmatix on "The Sea To The North" by Garth Hudson. He has toured and recorded with Graham Parker, Mercury Rev and Guy Davis. Early in his career, Louie was the pianist and organist for the The Mighty Gospel Giants Of Brooklyn. Louie has an instructional DVD on Homespun Tapes - Rock & Blues Accordion.
In the last four years, Louie traveled four times to Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia where he taught students English through singing and performed with many musical groups there. A documentary of his experiences Woodstock-Siberia Blues Express was featured in the Woodstock Film Festival and The International Maine Film Festival. For the past few years, one week of the summer, Louie teaches and performs at Common Ground at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.

GARY BURKE: has held an esteemed career as drummer for Bob Dylan, Graham Parker and many others & best known to the public for his long tenure on drums on over a dozen albums with Joe Jackson. Starting in 1983 with the release of the Top Ten Gold album "Body and Soul", Gary continued on into the '90s with Joe Jackson in a mind-boggling mix of musical landscapes of gold, platinum and Grammy winning albums combined with many world tours and media profiles such as in Modern Drummer Magazine. Gary Burke was the drummer and percussionist for The Radio City Music Hall Orchestra for four years during the 80's.

MARIE SPINOSA: Miss Marie from Brooklyn, NY - singer/songwriter, pianist/percussionist had performed for many years in concert with her own groups in the tri-state area. Miss Marie toured the college circuit before moving to upstate NY. She has co-written many of the songs on Professor "Louie" & The Crowmatix releases. Miss Marie's strong vocals and percussion can be heard on varied recordings: "Deserter's Song" by Mercury Rev, "Jubilation" by The Band and also with Four Men & A Dog. Her soulful background vocals are featured on Rick Danko's "Sip The Wine" single CD and also on Rick Danko's "Times Like These" CD. Miss Marie's percussion can be heard on Garth Hudson's CD "The Sea To The North". Miss Marie has a solo CD with The Crowmatix "Collection.

FRANK CAMPBELL: Frank played bass with The Rick Danko, Levon Helm duo tours of the 70's and early 80's. From there he moved on playing with Steve Forbert as well as Cindy Cashdollar and relocated to Austin, TX where he worked with the group Asleep At The Wheel for ten years in the studio and on the road. Frank then moved back to the Woodstock area and teamed up with "Louie".

JOSH COLOW: From Woodstock, New York - An in demand rhythm & blues guitarist,
Josh has toured The United States and Europe with Jesse Winchester as well as with his own group and as a soloist. Josh was signed to EMI Europe and had a #1 hit in Italy with his group TiPiCal in the 90's. He has worked in the studio with Livingston Taylor, Artie Traum and more.
